After a pause of one year, the
Prayer March is back again in 2009 with the theme of THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.
There will be a choice of four marches from each of the compass points at the heart of Brussels (inner ring) to a central square, beginning at :
North : Place Charles Rogier (near Pyramid)
East : Porte de Namur (next to Quick)
West : Place du Nouveau Marché aux Grains/Dansaert
South : Gare du Midi (Pl. de la Constitution/Bd. de l’Europe)
TIME of ASSEMBLY: 3:30 pm
MARCHES DEPART: (+/-) 4:00 pm
Prayer guides will be present at all points speaking English, Dutch, French and Portuguese.
All marches will converge on Place de la Chapelle, 1000 Brussels for a
Christian cultural concert (approx. 5:00 –10:00pm) with many praise and worship groups and ample times for prayer.
Come and pray, come and enjoy Christ on the streets of Brussels. May the Lord bless you richly as you seek to serve him.
The Prayer March of June 25th could definitely be called a success. The weather was excellent, the atmosphere was warm and enthusiastic, the crowd multi-cultural and colourful. Four smaller marches started at 14.00 from four different points on the inner ring. The Flemish group (about 20) started from the Flemish gate, along the St Gorik Square (the old historical centre of Brussels), the old market and the palace of justice. Halfway we were followed by VTM TV.
By the Palace of Justice a large crowd gathered at 15.30 and there was a short time of worship. Then a large march (about 800) walked via the cathedral to the Mint Square (the place where the Belgian independence struggle erupted in 1830)
There a prayer concert with different acts was held until 22.00 (a Brazilian Music group, Congolese choirs, the MEGA kids, Chris and Laura Christensen and many others). As cherry on the cake there was a report on the evening news just after the Liege City Parade slot (200 000 participants). They talked about a different sort of March in Brussels and mentioned that Brussels seemed like one big church. Was this an exaggeration or a prophetic exclamation? I look forward to the time where the Prayer March will number more than 200 000 people and Brussels will be filled with Prayer!.
2004
The second Prayer March took place on Sunday 18th April 2004. This time about 1100 Christians walked from the Palace of Justice to the Jean Rey Square (European Parliament) The theme was “reconciliation” both personal and joint reconciliation between Christians, churches, peoples and races.
On the previous day there was a smaller march for intercessors. In several groups they went from the North station, along the ring road, to the South station. In the evening once again there was a multicultural concert, with prophetic theater from a Brazilian Church.
2003
Sunday May 11th 2003, about a thousand Christians from many denominations, nationalities and groups, gathered to pray for Brussels, Belgium and Europe.
Together we prayed for reconciliation/hope, love/integrity, truth/ faith, freedom/generosity. From the Luxemburg Square we walked, praying, to the Palace of Justice.
On the Saturday there was also prayer action, more specifically directed on intercessors. Four prayer walks, with about 200 participants, took place along strategic places in Brussels. In the evening there was a multicultural Prayer Concert in the Diksmuidelaan.
